Basic calligraphy (a fancy word that means fancy lettering) is an essential Lazy Crafter skill, because calligraphy will instantly dress up any project that involves writing. Whether you’re writing gift tags or jam jar labels, calligraphy will add that extra little something to make your gifts really special.
I took a class in calligraphy in college, but armed with a basic guide and a felt-tip calligraphy pen, you can fake it pretty well even without that level of training. A basic, copy-the-examples workbook like the one shown below will walk you through the steps, and when you’re using one of those special felt-tip calligraphy pens it really just boils down to holding the pen at a certain angle to get a thick line and slightly rotating it to adjust the angle when you want a thin line.
Instructional books will typically include an entire chapter on pens, nibs and ink, but if you’re using specially-designed calligraphy markers you can skip over all that and get right into practicing your letters. You can find plenty of free online tutorials too, including video tutorials on YouTube.
Next time you need to write something for a craft project, why not go a little fancier with basic calligraphy?
